Mary Berry has warned that advert breaks during the Great British Bake Off could be putting fans off the show.

The former judge, who quit the show after it was announced that it would be moving from the BBC to Channel Four, told Good Housekeeping magazine that she thought that viewers might be a “bit crabby about the ads” in the new version of the programme.

She went on to say that she that thought that new presenters Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig were doing a “good job” and that she approved of her replacement, Prue Leith.

“I could have chosen someone to take my place, and if they’d given me all the cookery writers set in a row, I would have said that Prue would be the one,” said the 82 year old.

Speaking about why she left the show, she told the magazine: “I did seven years and loved every minute of it. But you have to go some time, don’t you?

“It is all about the brilliant format. All the family can watch and there’s no bad language. It has continued in exactly the same format and place."

After seven series of the show being aired on the BBC, producers Love Productions announced the Bake Off would be moving to Channel 4 in September last year.

Following this decision, Berry and former presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins decided to leave the show.

The celebrity chef also shared her dislike of fad diets, such as clean eating.

She told Good Housekeeping: “It’s really about eating a balanced diet. You are what you eat.

“Everybody wants smoothies, but I’d rather have the texture of vegetables and fruits. If you want to have kale and spinach made into a smoothie, you have it. But for me, I just want a balanced diet – fruit, veg, meat and fish.”
