Winter Love Island fans are pushing for Lewis Capaldi to be selected as the show’s DJ so that he can confront his ex Paige Turley in the villa.

The singer-songwriter, 23, and the reality hopeful, 22, previously dated for a year, with Turley rumoured to have inspired some of Capaldi’s hits including Someone You Loved.

After Capaldi joked that he wanted a cut from Paige’s winnings if she was successful on the ITV2 show, social media users now want him to take things one a step further and go into the villa.

In previous years Craig David and DJ Tom Zanetti shocked the Islanders with a surprise appearance at their parties towards the end of the series.

Of course, the Internet is having a field day suggesting Capaldi plays a club remix to Someone You Loved to taunt Paige.

Speaking on New Zealand’s The Edge radio show this week, Capaldi said that he would ask his ex to “slide [him] two grand” if she ended up winning the £50,000 cash prize.

“The prize is like £50,000 and I’ll be like ‘Well, listen. They asked you to go on it right. I’m not saying I’m the reason but also… slide me two grand,’” he said.

He went on to reveal that Turley “never told [him] she was going on” the show, adding: “That would have been a nice heads up. But fair play and good luck to her.

“When she’s on a date with a boy I’ll be like, ‘Come on, kiss him.’ I hope she wins.”

He added: “I’ve known her for years. 18 when we first met, 19 when we started going out, 20 when we finished going out. It was a very amicable break-up.”

Speaking ahead of her Love Island debut, fellow singer Turley said that the relationship “ended really amicably” and claimed that the pair are “still pals.”

The Islander was forced to name-drop her famous ex during on January 13's episode, when the contestants had to share secrets about themselves in a challenge called Spill The Tea.

He quit the show after three days after realising that he still has "strong feelings" for his ex-girlfriend.
