A north London schoolboy was stabbed up to six times in broad daylight this afternoon.

Witnesses said the boy, aged 15, was repeatedly knifed close to the Monkeynuts restaurant in Athenaeum Road, Whetstone.

He was wearing a school uniform and today was his first day back after the summer holidays, according to witnesses.

Police and medics were called at about 3.20pm and the boy was taken to hospital with stab wounds.

His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, Scotland Yard said.

Lucy Lovelace, 38, was sitting in a parked car nearby and witnessed the aftermath.

She said: "Police came and looked under our car looking for the weapon and then started searching all the dustbins.

"There's lots of blood in the street. I spoke to people who saw it happen, they said he was stabbed five or six times."

Ms Lovelace added: "This is an affluent area. People have been saying 'my god, things like this don't happen in this area'. It's so shocking."

The boy's relatives are aware of the attack, police said.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said the Trident Crime Command was investigating and no arrests have been made.

He said: "Police were called at 3.19pm today to reports of a stabbing in Athenaeum Road.

"Officers and London Ambulance Service attended the scene and found a 15-year-old boy having suffered a number of stab wounds.

"He was taken central London hospital where his condition is currently believed to be non life threatening.

"No arrests have been made and enquires continue."
