A pensioner was robbed at gunpoint by a man who jumped into his van at a supermarket car park.

Police say the victim, in his early 70s, had returned to his vehicle near Wilko in Woolwich New Road after withdrawing a “substantial amount” of money from the bank.

A man jumped into the van and pulled out a black handgun, forcing the victim to start driving.

They travelled past the Woolwich Ferry and into Farmdale Road, near the A2 flyover, where the gunman grabbed the cash and ran off.

Following the robbery, which happened at 10.15am on January 7, police have released a CCTV still of a man they want to trace.

He is described as black, in his early 30s, 6ft 2ins tall and of athletic build. He wore a black coat and a scarf across his face.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
