Londoners are set for a respite from the wet weather this weekend following another rain-soaked week in the capital.

Forecasters have predicted a largely dry Saturday and Sunday with sunny outbreaks but also the “odd” light shower.

But, any hopes of a prolonged dry spell have been dashed as experts said rain was likely to return on Monday morning.

Met Office forecaster Alex Burkill said: “Looking into the weekend it looks much drier, there is the odd chance of one or two showers but the picture is much better in most areas.

“It will even feel pretty good but not as warm under the cloud.

“It looks like there will be a respite in London on Saturday and Sunday before the wet weather returns next week.”

It comes after another unsettled week in the capital in which bookmakers suspended bets on this June being the wettest on record.

Maximum temperatures are set to reach 19C on Saturday rising to 21C on Sunday, just below the average for the time of the year.
