A person has died after being hit by a train at Woking.

The incident sparked delays and cancellations on services in and out of London.

British Transport Police were called to Woking station, in Surrey, at around 9.20 on Tuesday morning to reports that a train had hit a person.

Officers confirmed the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

No more details were immediately available.

A spokesman said: “Officers are on scene alongside paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service however a person has sadly been pronounced dead.

“Work is underway to identify the person and inform their family.

“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

South West Trains services have been delayed and cancelled between Woking and Surbiton until 12noon.

A statement posted on the train company’s website read: “Disruption between Woking and Surbiton area whilst we investigate reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Some lines have reopened however will not be calling at some stations between Woking and Surbiton. The location of the incident causes a knock on effect as many lines pass through the area.

“This means trains may have to be cancelled, altered or revised at short notice. Some services may also be diverted via an alternative route or terminated and started back from different locations.”
