London New Year's Eve fireworks tickets listed on Ebay for £100 each

Tickets to the London New Year's Eve fireworks display are being sold online for hundreds of pounds above their face value.

Passes for the end-of-year celebrations on the Southbank usually retail at £10 and can be purchased via the London City Hall website.

But a raft of Ebay retailers have put tickets up for sale online with a huge mark-up, with some selling them for £100 a piece.

Tickets sold out in advance this year, with police warning Londoners not to attempt to attend the event without one.

One seller promises a "best view guarantee" with the purchase of their tickets, telling potential customers they must be willing to collect their item in-person from central London.

Another advertises their tickets as "brand new, unused, unopened and undamaged".

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to celebrate the new year in the city on Sunday evening.

A spokesperson for the Mayor of London said: “We would urge people not to purchase tickets from second sellers or touts.

"All those attending the fireworks need to bring ID with them that matches the name on the tickets.

"Those who have bought tickets from unauthorised ticket sellers will not be allowed into the event.”
