The president of Belarus has accidentally sparked an international naked working craze after urging citizens to “get undressed and work till you sweat.”

Alexander Lukashenko made the bold suggestion when talking about the importance of technology to the national economy.

But, unfortunately for the president, citizens took his words at their literal value and have started posting pictures of themselves naked at work.

Hundreds of Belarusians have posted pictures, using the #getnakedatwork hashtag and the craze has even spread into Russia, Ukraine and the Baltic states.

With Belarus experiencing one of its worst economic situations in decades, President Lukashenko appeared to be urging people to work harder, not follow his advice too faithfully.

As well as tech workers, other office workers and even builders got in on the act.

People have been posing at their computers, on scaffolding, at hotel receptions and scores of other places around the country.

Daring citizens also chose to mimic President Lukashenko, known in the country as 'Daddy', following his own advice.
