Benedict Cumberbatch may soon be ordering a pint in the Queen Vic as he is keen to make a cameo appearance in EastEnders.

Cumberbatch, 39, has promised his producer friend Dominic Treadwell Collins that he will set foot in Albert Square when he finds the time in his hectic work schedule.

Speaking at the Radio Times TV Festival, Treadwell Collins revealed: “I really want Benedict Cumberbatch to come and do a turn. And he says he’ll come and do it but he is slightly busy.

“But he would be my dream.”

Cumberbatch – who is currently playing Hamlet at the Barbican – was at school with Treadwell Collins , whose mother picked up on the actor’s thespian talents.

“He was the year above me at school and I remember doing the Shakespeare play As You Like It,” Treadwell Collins told the audience.

“He was Rosalind and I was Audrey the country wench.

“I remember afterwards running up to my mum to see if I was any good and she said, ‘Yeah, you were fine but that Benedict is an actor’.”

Several stars have made cameo appearances in the BBC soap. London mayor Boris Johnson made an appearance when he attempted to enlist the political help of Queen Vic landlady Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor).

Nick Grimshaw also appeared as part of a soap-bombing challenge set on his Breakfast Show, and David Walliams played a fake registrar during the Christmas Day wedding of Kat and Alfie Moon.
