Kylie Minogue has revealed she is "over the moon" after being asked to record the theme song for the Absolutely Fabulous film.

Minogue, 48, will lend her voice to Bob Dylan’s hit This Wheel's on Fire which featured in all of the original BBC episodes.

"As a huge fan of the Ab Fab series and both Jennifer [Saunders] and Joanna [Lumley], I’m over the moon to be singing the theme song," she told The Sun.

Lumley was keen to keep Minogue’s involvement a secret, according to the publication which also reported that Paloma Faith, Jason Derulo and La Roux have all recorded songs for the soundtrack.

Julia Sawalha – who plays Saffy – has covered Janis Ian's At Seventeen, while Jane Horrocks – who plays Bubbles – has recorded Big Spender.

Saunders and Lumley will reprise their roles as the fashionably challenged Edina and Patsy in the big screen adaptation.

The film follows the Champagne loving duo as they escape to the French Riviera after accidentally pushing Kate Moss into the River Thames "at an uber fashionable launch party".

Film bosses recently announced a list of 60 celebrities set to make a cameo.

Joan Collins, Lara Stone, Rylan Clark, Jerry Hall, Jamie Laing, Tinie Tempah, Perez Hilton, Suki Waterhouse, Sadie Frost, Kate Moss and Jean Paul Gaultier are among the names.

Moss recently opened up about drinking Champagne on set during filming.

"It was just amazing to be in a room with [the characters] Eddie and Patsy and Saffy and Bubbles; it was like a dream," she told The Edit.

"It was 10:30 in the morning and Eddie was opening bottles of champagne for me, real bottles. They were like, 'We usually use ginger ale, but for you we got real Bolly!'."

Absolutely Fabulous is slated for UK cinema release on July 1.
