Lindsay Lohan has asked fans to stop discussing her new accent after a video of her being interviewed on Greek TV went viral.

The US actress, who left fans baffled by her bizarre new voice earlier this week, has asked her followers to be ‘happy’ and ‘recognise what’s happening’.

While it’s unclear what Lohan is actually referring to, it seems that the star is keen for people to focus on more important issues in the world.

“I just want everyone to not focus on my accent and be happy and help each other and recognise what’s happening,” she wrote in a Snapchat post on Thursday night.

Lohan, who hails from New York, appeared to adopt a European accent on the red carpet in Athens earlier this week.

Discussing her new nightclub opening with Dennis Papageorgiou and their rumoured romance, she said: “Dennis, my friend, and that's all he is, my friend and business partner.

“When I went through hardships with my ex, I found really, a good family in Istanbul from Greece.”

Explaining why she has lost her American accent, Lohan later told MailOnline:

“It's a mixture of most of the languages I can understand or am trying to learn,” she said.

“And for those wondering at home, the pop culture icon is well on her way to knowing six languages fluently.”

She added: “I've been learning different languages since I was a child. I'm fluent in English and French can understand Russian and am learning Turkish, Italian and Arabic.”
