Adele and Beyoncé lead this year’s MTV VMA nominations.

The British chart-topping star has been nominated in an impressive eight categories for hits Hello and Send My Love, while Queen Bey has earned a staggering 11 nods for visual album Lemonade.

Both stars will compete for Video of the Year, which is the highest honour of the ceremony, alongside Kanye West, Drake and Justin Bieber.

Adele’s comeback hit Hello has received seven nominations alone, including Video of the Year, Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Best Direction.

Drake and West will go head-to-head in the Best Male Video category, which also sees Calvin Harris’ This Is What You Came For nominated.

Announced on Tuesday evening, this year’s nominations have few surprises, apart from the fact that Taylor Swift hasn’t received a single nomination.

This could be due to the fact that her last album 1989 was released at the end of 2014 so isn’t eligible, despite the fact that she has debuted videos this year.

Swift was the star of the show at last year’s awards, scooping six trophies for her video for Bad Blood.

The pop superstar, who has been embroiled in a public feud with Kanye West and Kim KArdashian, might want to steer clear of this year’s ceremony as West’s video for Famous has received a nomination.
