Noel Edmonds has opened up about the heart breaking moment he recorded messages for his daughters before he attempted to commit suicide.

The 68-year-old entertainer said his “world imploded” and he was left in a ‘dark space’ after he fell victim to financial fraud 12 years ago.

The Deal or No Deal host wrote a letter to his ex-wife to explain his decision, as well as recording audio notes for his daughters Charlotte, Lorna, Olivia and Alice.

Speaking to ITV News he said: “The only way I can describe it, is it’s the darkest space that the human mind ever occupies. You see nothing.

“I mean I had four daughters, I had a wife, I had mates, I saw nothing in that dark space.”

He continued: “I wrote a letter to my now ex-wife explaining as best I could why I’d reached the end and I recorded little dictaphone messages to my daughters basically saying goodbye.”

Edmonds’ empire, Unique Group, was one of several businesses that collapsed at the hands of ex-HBOS bankers David Mills, Alison Mills, Lynden Scoufield, Mark Dobson, Michael Bancroft and John Cartwright who have all since been imprisoned.

Lloyd’s, which took over HBOS in 2009, has set aside £100 million to compensate the victims of the fraud, but Edmonds is personally seeking £300 million.

“They stole my companies, they stole my home, they stole my family, they stole my livelihood, they nearly stole my life,” he said.

“I want my stolen goods back. I want to be able to get on with my life and restore my reputation.”

Lloyds has said it is cooperating fully with an independent review. A statement read: “The Group is determined to get to the bottom of what went on, and a thorough investigation is being conducted”.
