U2 frontman Bono has blasted Donald Trump, saying the Republican is a ‘threat’ to the American Dream.

Bono – real name Paul Hewson – hit out at the US presidential hopeful during a political set at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas.

The band played their 1988 hit Desire as a video of Trump at a political rally played in the background.

Bono asked: "Are you ready to gamble your car? Are you ready to gamble your house? Are you ready to gamble the American Dream?"

The video of Trump replied: "The American Dream is dead."

"The American Dream is alive," Bono replied. "What do you have to lose? Everything!"

Bono has been vocal in his dislike of Trump and recently said he "is potentially the worst idea that ever happened to America".

The singer said he has no problem with Republicans but believes Trump does not uphold their true values.

"I don't think he's a Republican," Bono said. "I think he's hijacked the party, and I think he's trying to hijack the idea of America. And I think it's bigger than all of us. I think this is really dangerous ... Wise people of conscience should not let this man turn your country into a casino."

Joss Whedon is the latest star to criticise the businessman and gathered a group of Hollywood A-listers to encourage voters to head to the polls and vote for Hillary Clinton.

The US director promised fans that Mark Ruffalo will go fully nude in his next movie if Clinton wins the race to the White House.

Speaking in the three minute video the celebrities say: “If you do vote, Mark Ruffalo will do a nude scene in his next movie.”

Scarlett Johansson tells fans he will go “full monty” and Robert Downey Jr. adds: “Mark's going to have his d*** out.”

Clearly surprised by the plan, Ruffalo joked: “Wait what? They should just vote because it matters don’t you think?”
