Charlton anger at Tottenham's low bid for Bent

13 April 2012

Tottenham's negotiations with Charlton over the signing of Darren Bent are in danger of breaking down after they made an offer of only £8million for the striker.

Spurs manager Martin Jol is determined to sign the England international, but the club are a long way short of the club's £15m valuation.

Wantaway: Darren Bent is interested in a move to Tottenham

Charlton believe they can still get a high price for their prize asset, even though they were relegated to the Championship, and won't be forced into selling him for anything less.

West Ham, Newcastle and Liverpool are also interested in the 23-year-old, but Spurs are in a strong position as Bent indicated that he is only interested in a move to White Hart Lane.

Charlton believe they are using Bent's desire to try to achieve a cut-price deal and the tactic has not gone down well with chiefs at The Valley.

Bent is on holiday in America, but is expecting to sort out his future on his return.

The move is in danger unless Spurs increase their bid significantly. Last week Bent said: "In terms of my situation I've not heard anything and I haven't spoken to the manager or the chairman.

"I'm just going to go away and get myself 100 per cent fit for next season and take it from there. Charlton have done a lot for me.

"I love the club and I love the fans, who have been brilliant with me.

"When you are young you want to play in the best league and that's the Premiership, so I'm disappointed we went down this season."
