Adrian tells West Ham to ‘sharpen up’ ahead of Manchester United clash

West Ham goalkeeper Adrian has urged his team-mates to “sharpen up” after they were pegged back by West Brom.

Yesterday’s 1-1 draw with West Brom left the Hammers without a win in their last four games.

West Ham dominated the first half but had just Mauro Zarate’s curling free-kick to show for their efforts. They were punished early in the second half when substitute Rickie Lambert’s shot deflected in off Winston Reid.

However, as the busy festive period approaches, Slaven Bilic’s side remain in contention to challenge for a European spot, thanks in large to wins against big guns Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Adrian said: “It’s difficult to explain because we played really well against the big teams. Against the lower teams we have been putting in the same performances but we just need to concentrate and show the same level against every team.

“We have another good opportunity next week playing at Manchester United — we need to play a great game to get the three points.

“We need to work hard this week to get the three points [on Saturday] and concentrate and give our best level. We have a good team and a good squad.

“Sometimes you have to have a little bit of luck. We hope to have that against Manchester United.”

Bilic was today anxiously waiting for a medical update on striker Diafra Sakho, who was forced off in the second half with a thigh injury.

“We are waiting for the specialists to give their opinion but it does not look good does not look good,” said Bilic. “It’s a big blow.”
