Arsenal star Granit Xhaka fit for Switzerland’s World Cup 2022 opener after shaking off illness

Granit Xhaka has recovered from the illness that forced him off during Arsenal’s win over Wolves last week to be fit for Switzerland’s World Cup opener.

Arsenal beat Wolves 1-0 last Saturday to ensure they will be top of the Premier League on Christmas Day for the first time since 2007.

Xhaka, however, was struck by illness during the win at Molineux and he was forced to come off within 15 minutes.

The midfielder was not the only one with stomach issues and it is understood around three or four more Arsenal players were unwell, including Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Xhaka has recovered, though, and he will be ready to captain Switzerland at the World Cup, which starts this weekend.

Switzerland are currently training in Qatar and Xhaka was able to take part in the session on Tuesday.

The Swiss have a friendly against Ghana on Thursday morning and Xhaka is hoping to be involved.
