Arsene Wenger says he is confident Arsenal can salvage something from their season despite falling 10 points behind in the race for the Premier League top four.

A second 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City in less than a week left a feeling of despair in the north London air on Thursday night, with the League leaders exploiting every Arsenal weakness.

The last hope for Arsenal in a silver-lining in another clouded season is the Europa League, where the Gunners now face AC Milan in the round of 16.

With confidence on the floor, Wenger still believes his squad have it in them to turn things around.

"Yes of course, I am confident of that," the Frenchman said when asked about rescuing the Gunners' campaign.

"Nothing is permanent in life, apart from the judgements who are always permanent - but the reality in life is nothing is permanent.

"It is down to you, how you respond and what kind of focus and effort you show to change things."

Wenger, though, did admit that it is a long road back to regain confidence, but that his squad must remain united to battle back.

"Low confidence is always dangerous," he added. "But you earn it by putting the effort in and by staying together at the moment where it is very difficult.

"You go up by the stairs and come down by the lift, that is confidence.

"But that is what you have to show to prove you have the level to be at Arsenal Football Club."
