Chelsea handed Champions League boost as Juventus rule Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata out of Group H tie

Juventus have been dealt a key double injury blow ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Chelsea after top scorers Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata were both ruled out of the contest.

Dybala netted a superb early goal as the struggling Bianconeri notched their first home win of the 2021/22 Serie A season against Sampdoria on Sunday, but soon limped off with an apparent muscle injury.

Former Chelsea striker Morata also started the 3-2 victory in Turin, but was replaced by Moise Kean with eight minutes remaining.

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri subsequently confirmed that both players would miss Wednesday’s heavyweight Group H showdown with the Champions League holders and next weekend’s derby against Torino, with key fixtures against Jose Mourinho’s Roma and defending champions Inter Milan looming after the October international break.

“Dybala and Morata certainly won’t play against Chelsea or Torino. That is for certain. We can only hope that we get them back after the break for international duty,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

“This is part of the game, we have to keep going.”
