Former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis believes his one-year stint at the club was a success despite his limited game time at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues signed Luis from Atletico Madrid in 2013 following his La Liga title success with the club, but the defender failed to displace first-choice left-back Cesar Azpilicueta from the team.

After making just 26 appearances for Jose Mourinho's side, Luis was eventually sold back to Los Rojiblancos this summer where he has gone on to regain his starting spot under Diego Simeone.

Although he failed to make an impact at Chelsea, Luis has admitted he looks back on his time in west London in a positive light because of the fact he managed to win the Premier League and Capital One Cup trophies with the Blues.

"I consider my time with Chelsea a personal triumph," he told Yahoo Sports.

"In one year I won two titles – one being the Premier League. I have a trophy at home that not many people have and in possibly the most competitive league in the world.

"Every day, after every training session and every match, I went home satisfied knowing that I had done my best."

He added: "I didn’t have the chance [to play] in the first match of the league season and the opportunity to play in the first game is key for players at a new club – that made everything more difficult."
