Graham Taylor's shock at 'dogmatic' Jimmy Russo

Upset: Graham Taylor thinks Jimmy Russo's approach is dogmatic
11 April 2012

Graham Taylor is stunned that Jimmy Russo is set to push Watford into administration after the former chairman turned down a plea to defer repayment of his £4.88million loan.

Russo, and brother Vince, rejected a £7.5m rightsissue rescue package from majority shareholder Lord Ashcroft, leaving the club facing a 10-point penalty from the Football League.

But former Watford boss Taylor, who rejoined the Championship side's board this week and is also a radio pundit, said: "They will get their £4.8m back in about a month's time.

"While Jimmy maintains his dogmatic approach, there is little opportunity apart from to go into administration. I have spoken to (former chairman) Elton John and he is dismayed when there is another way out. He is shocked by the approach taken by the Russos."

Jimmy Russo insists it is "not his priority" to put the club into administration. He said: "I want us to sit around the table and come up with a sensible solution to take the club forward."
