John Terry tribute: Chelsea insist captain will be honoured at award ceremony amid cancellation claims

Chelsea insist a tribute to John Terry is going ahead at the club’s end of season awards dinner this evening.

It had been suggested that it had been cancelled, sparking hopes among supporters that the club had decided to give the captain a new contract.

But the segment was put in place to honour the fact Terry had reached 700 club appearances and was not part of any grand send-off.

The 35-year-old, who has been at Stamford Bridge since he was 14, has yet to be offered a contract extension and is set to leave this summer.

He held more talks with the hierarchy this week but the club maintain there is no update yet on his future.

Chelsea supporters are set to stage another protest during the final League game against Leicester urging the board to keep Terry, who is suspended, for another 12 months.

On Sunday Chelsea players will form a guard of honour for new champions Leicester, a year after the Blues lifted the trophy.
