Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has admitted that he is "honoured" to be linked with a move to Manchester United and refused to rule out the possibility of leaving the Signal Iduna Park in the future.

The 26-year-old, who joined Dortmund from Bayern Munich in 2009, following a successful loan spell, has been on the Red Devils' radar for several months.

However, despite mounting interest from Louis van Gaal's side throughout the season, the Germany international has decided to stay put, despite Dortmund's disappointing seventh place finish in the Bundesliga, for now.

Yet the imposing centre back is adamant that he is proud to have attracted interest from Old Trafford and hinted that he would consider a move away from Dortmund in the future.

“Of course when the big clubs are interested, and Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, it’s an honour," he admitted.

“But I decided I wanted to stay here.

"I've been at Dortmund for a very long time, I haven't set a limit. It’s hard to say what future brings, but I'm still here after seven years," Hummels added.
