Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is convinced Mauricio Pochettino would want his job at Manchester United but dismissed concerns about his position.

The Norwegian has also predicted a "circus" following Jose Mourinho’s return to management at Tottenham.

Pochettino – sacked by Spurs this week - was the overwhelming favourite to succeed Mourinho at Old Trafford before Solskjaer was appointed in March.

His availability now has placed fresh pressure on the United manager, who has endured a turbulent start to the season.

Ed Woodward and the Glazer family remain huge admirers of Pochettino and, despite insisting they have faith in Solskjaer’s Old Trafford rebuild, will know the ex-Spurs manager will be in high demand.

But Solskjaer is adamant he has no concerns about Pochettino taking his job.

He said: “It doesn’t bother me at all. I’ve got the best job in the world and if you’re in or out of a job, you want this job.

“So it doesn’t really matter whatever happens around it. I’ve got to focus on my job at Manchester United - do it as well as we can.

“I speak with Ed and the owners all the time about how we move forward and that doesn’t change if others change managers.”

Mourinho is back in management for the first time since his Old Trafford reign ended in acrimony last December.

Solskjaer welcomed his return and believes it will take some of the focus off United.

He added: “It’s good to have Jose back, definitely, especially for you guys and maybe for me. You can talk and write about everything else.”

And responding to Nemanja Matic ‘liking’ an Instagram post that suggesting the midfielder was waiting to be reunited with Mourinho, he added: “You like Jose coming back. It’s going to be a spectacle and a circus and Nemanja has a sense of humour.”

On Pochettino’s sacking, Solskjaer said: “It’s always sad when one of your colleagues, a good man, loses his job before Christmas. I wish him all the best.

“In football you can never be surprised or shocked, I’ve just got to concentrate on my job.”
