Radja Nainggolan has said he intends to remain at Roma after Chelsea grew frustrated in their pursuit of the Belgian international.

Standard Sport reported last month that the Blues had switched their focus to Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante after failing in two bids for Nainggolan.

Roma held firm over a valuation of £37million for the 28-year-old, having already lost another key midfield cog when Miralem Pjanic agreed a £25.4m move to Serie A rivals Juventus.

After meeting with Roma director Walter Sabatini Nainggolan agreed not to force through a move to Stamford Bridge and could now extend a contract not due to expire until 2020.

"I met with Sabatini and everything went well," Nainggolan told reporters. "I am staying at Roma."

Though their pursuit of Nainggolan seems set to fail Chelsea have already completed one significant swoop for a Belgian international during the window. Last week the Blues announced they had agreed a £33.1m deal for Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi.
