West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen is using Liverpool's Mohamed Salah as inspiration in his bid to catch England manager Gareth Southgate's eye ahead of the World Cup.

Bowen produced another fine display as he sealed the Hammers’ FA Cup third-round victory over Leeds with an injury-time goal on the break yesterday, having caused no end of problems down the right flank.

Bowen has two goals and four assists in his last five games across all competitions. Manager David Moyes has put Bowen's upturn in form down to a new found composure in the final third, and said Liverpool star Salah is the perfect inspiration for the West Ham forward.

"I think Mo Salah is the perfect example," Bowen told Standard Sport. "The goals he scores and assists he gets, the impact he has on games and consistently doing it every season since he joined Liverpool.

"He is definitely one that I look at and I think he is one of the best players in the world at the moment. As a player you always want to look at people in a similar position to yours and learn from them."

Bowen's fine form this season has seen him attract the attention of those within the England camp. The 25-year-old is yet to receive a call-up for the Three Lions but has been put on standby by Southgate this season.

The former Hull and Hereford man says England would be the "ultimate dream" but that he is relaxed about trying to force the issue.

"I think this season was about progression and getting the call up for England is the ultimate dream," said Bowen.

"That is out of my hands, my job is to deliver on the pitch and show what I am about. That is all I can do, keep putting in the performances and the end product.

"If it happens then it happens, if it doesn't it doesn't. I can only control what I am doing. It is not on my mind, the more you think about these situations which are not in your control, the more it plays on your mind and affects you."
