David Moyes has praised the derby atmosphere the West Ham fans created against Chelsea and believes the win will boost the Hammers in their fight against relegation.

On a chilly Saturday afternoon in east London, West Ham secured a 1-0 win over the Premier League champions to hand Moyes his first victory since taking over from Slaven Bilic.

The Hammers still sit in the relegation zone following the victory, but the win comes as a welcome boost as the east Londoners continue to work towards top-flight safety.

Moyes was pleased with the well-organised performance from his players against a Chelsea side who had come into the clash unbeaten in seven games in all competitions, and hailed the West Ham fans for spurring the hosts on.

"The fans have been fantastic," Moyes said following the match.

"If you were here against Leicester [1-1 draw] and here today, you'd say 'I want to come back'. It was a great atmosphere. The crowd were great [vs Leicester].

"We've [now] put in two decent performances in our two home games."

Moyes' first game in charge of West Ham saw the Hammers lose 2-0 away to Watford before they impressed as they drew 1-1 with Leicester at the London Stadium.

But a 4-0 defeat against Everton saw the pressure build on West Ham - though they went on to only narrowly be beaten by runaway leaders City at the Etihad Stadium last weekend.

With the Hammers now having beaten Chelsea 1-0, Moyes believes his players' confidence is slowly increasing - shown by their improved performances of late.

He added: "It was a disciplined organised performance from us. We had taken confidence from the City game but we didn't get anything from it.

"We needed to stop conceding goals, and we kept a clean sheet. We got a goal and we had a good plan to hurt Chelsea and make sure their quality wasn't going to overrun us.

"The confidence can help their energy levels rise. Our energy levels have risen. I don't want my centre forward thinking it's 65 minutes - they've been told 'Well done' but I want them to play for 90 minutes."
