Jones charged over Rennie outburst

14 April 2012

Wolves manager Dave Jones has been charged with "bringing the game into disrepute" by the Football Association following his comments about referee Uriah Rennie.

Jones called Rennie "arrogant" after Rennie turned down two penalty appeals during Wanderers' 2-1 home defeat by Bolton on April 12 at Molineux.

An FA statement revealed Jones had been charged with "failing to act in the best interests of the game and bringing the game into disrepute".

He has until May 13 to respond and, according to the club's official website, will request a personal hearing with the FA.

Jones told www.wolves.co.uk: "I look forward to the opportunity of being able to state my case before the FA and explaining why I said some of the things I did."

Kevin Davies' late goal sent the Premiership's bottom club lurching towards relegation after just one season back in the top flight. They remain six points from safety with only three games remaining.

Jones labelled Rennie's performance "diabolical" and said at the time: "He'll probably go home as happy as Larry but his performance was unacceptable at any level of football.

"He's an arrogant man - it was as if the game was all about him and that's not the first time that's happened to us with him this season."

The Wolves boss later claimed he stood by his remarks, saying: "I made my feelings clear but I don't think I was abusive or derogatory."

The Black Country club have also requested a personal hearing with the FA in a bid to save striker Henri Camara from a three-match ban. Camara faces the charge following his tackle on Jason Dodd in Wolves' Molineux clash with Southampton on April 3.

The Senegal striker was booked for the challenge but referee Mark Halsey subsequently viewed video evidence and decided it was worthy of a sending-off.
