Leonard keeps cool to win play-off

12 April 2012

Justin Leonard birdied the second play-off hole to win the St Jude Championship in Tennessee.

Leonard, who also won this event in 2005, needed the extra holes to defeat Masters champion Trevor Immelman and Robert Allenby after all three finished at four under.

Padraig Harrington (68), Sergio Garcia (66), Boo Weekley (68) and Alex Cejka (70) all finished one stroke further back.

Leonard recorded a birdie at the 15th to lead by one stroke, but a wayward drive on the 17th led to a bogey - and he also slid a 15-foot birdie putt just over the lip on the 18th.

But in the play-off, Leonard holed a 19-foot birdie putt and then clinched victory when Immelman missed his attempt.
