Napier considering IPL move

12 April 2012

Big-hitting Essex all-rounder Graham Napier has revealed he is in discussions with an Indian Premier League team.

The 28-year-old put IPL franchises on alert with a series of outstanding displays in Essex's Twenty20 Cup campaign last season, including an astonishing 58-ball 152 not out.

With the next IPL competition overlapping with the start of the 2009 domestic season, Napier would need the permission of Essex to take part.

Napier, who is currently in India for the Twenty20 Champions League awards, said: "Having had a little taste of the way India is promoting Twenty20 cricket it is clear there is potential for a great opportunity to be provided to myself and other players to show our skills off on a grand stage.

"Essex has, and always will be, my first side but this is a chance that has arisen and will offer me a great opportunity to further my career.

"I'm still contracted to Essex and look forward to helping the club win more silverware next year."

Napier was given the award for the best batting strike rate at the event in Delhi after scoring 326 runs for the Eagles at a rate of 195.2 per 100 balls.
