Rhinos cut Giants down to size

12 April 2012

Full-back Brent Webb scored two tries to help engage Super League champions Leeds record a first win in four matches beating Huddersfield 34-6.

The Rhinos made the perfect start when home skipper Brett Hodgson dropped the ball straight from the kick-off in the opening seconds. A flowing Leeds move was then capped off by Matt Diskin's kick through for Webb to go over by the posts.

The Giants never recovered from such a bad start and Leeds, who had lost their last three games, were out of sight at the break leading 22-0, much thanks to the devastating kick of captain Kevin Sinfield.

Sinfield kicked two penalties, both awarded for obstruction, in the opening period and then two quick converted tries just before the break.

Salford City Reds' three-match winning streak came to an end when their leg-weary side crashed to a 38-6 engage Super League defeat to the Catalan Dragons in Perpignan.

The Reds made far too many errors and despite a gutsy defensive display they could not stop a Greg Bird-orchestrated Catalans side from rolling over them in the second half.

Dimitri Pelo (2), Remi Casty, Jean Philippe Baile (2), Jerome Guisset, Kane Bentley and Steven Bell all crossed over for the French side to ensure victory after Stefan Ratchford had given the Reds and early lead.
