Shevchenko backs Mourinho

12 April 2012

Chelsea's £30million striker Andriy Shevchenko insists he will not moan if coach Jose Mourinho decides to drop him.

Shevchenko has struggled to adapt to life in English football and has been plagued by talk of a return to AC Milan since arriving at Stamford Bridge in the summer, but remains adamant that he backs Mourinho and his team selection.

Shevchenko said: "A manager has to decide the club's objectives for the whole season. If a manager decides a player has to be dropped, it has to be accepted. I have 100% belief in Jose and I accept what he decides."

The 30-year-old was omitted from Mourinho's list of 'untouchable' players when the Portuguese coach named the stars who pick themselves for Chelsea.

Despite the speculation surrounding his future, Shevchenko insists he will not be offended if the Chelsea boss decides to strengthen his attacking options during next month's transfer window.

He added: "This is a team game and there are 22 players all fighting to be in the team.

"If the club decides they want to bring in other players, I have no problem. Big teams have big objectives. Nobody in any of the big team has a clear right to play all the time."
