Sorrell helps kick Quins into touch

13 April 2012

Saracens centre Kevin Sorrell kicked two penalties, two conversions and a try as his side claimed a comfortable Premiership triumph over Harlequins.

Sorrell, who has taken over kicking duties from the injured Duncan McRae, had two weeks earlier been instrumental in Saracens' 26-18 win over Quins by kicking seven penalties from as many attempts.

This time the England A player got the ball rolling with two early penalties before touching down on the right wing for the first try of the afternoon after 11 minutes.

Sorrell benefited from a Tony Diprose feed following good work from backs Tim Horan, Nick Walshe and Kyran Bracken.

Australian centre Horan kept the momentum going after hooker Robbie Russell popped up the ball to captain Bracken, who in turn fed Horan. He was left to charge 25 metres up the field to score, with Sorrell converting.

Saracens stalwart Diprose was next on the scoreboard, the number eight benefiting from a break by Kieran Roche.

Again Sorrell converted, while Irish international Niall Woods kept Quins' head just above water with three penalties.

The home side were also unlucky not to be awarded a penalty try in the first half after Saracens' Dan Luger held back Ben Gollings, who was charging down the ball near his opponents' goal-line.

New Zealander Brendon Daniel finally touched down for Quins, who have only managed to win two league games this season.

The pacey winger scored in the 50th minute after Harlequins appeared to be reviving their game in the second half.

England international Luger, however, continued to rub salt in his former side's wounds by scoring after 74 minutes to collect Saracens' fourth try of the afternoon and an important bonus point.

Zurich man of the match: Tony Diprose.

Full time score: Harlequins 14 Saracens 30
