Striker scores and then comes on as a sub... in the same game

14 April 2012

Colon striker Sebastian Malandra scored in the first minute of his team's 1-0 win over Velez Sarsfield and then came on as a second-half substitute in the same game.

Malandra hit the target after only 15 seconds when the match began on Sept 16. However, play was stopped in the 42nd minute when a linesman was hit by a cigarette lighter thrown from the crowd.

Under an Argentina Football Association (AFA) ruling, the rest of the match was played on Wednesday, divided into two halves of 24 minutes.

Although the game technically started where it left off, the teams were not obliged to field the same line-ups and Malandra began on the bench before replacing Giovanny Hernandez.

There were no other goals and the defeat was a severe dent to Velez Sarsfield's title hopes as they stayed fifth in the Apertura championship, six points behind leaders River Plate.

In another match which finished on Wednesday after a long interruption, Godoy Cruz beat Arsenal 2-1.

The teams played two halves of 37 minutes to complete a fixture which began on Aug. 12 at the Malvinas Argentinas stadium in Mendoza.

The game was abandoned in the 16th minute when rioting home fans clashed with police and tear gas drifted across the pitch.

The supporters were protesting after Godoy Cruz directors refused to grant them privileges, such as free entry to home games, transport to away matches and donations from players wages to help run their supporters club.

Mauro Poy scored 32 minutes into the second half to give Godoy Cruz only their second win in 12 outings.

Unfashionable Arsenal stayed fourth, five points behind River Plate, after their first defeat in seven games.

Argentine football has been plagued by crowd violence and there are still two outstanding matches to finish, both involving second-placed Boca Juniors.

On November 1, Boca, who are two points behind River, will play away to Racing Club in a fixture which was postponed at the weekend when the Buenos Aires provincial government's security department said they would not provide policing for the game.

One week later, Ricardo La Volpe's team will play the last 45 minutes of their game against Gimnasia-La Plata, which was abandoned at halftime when the referee said he had been threatened by the president of the home club.

Gimnasia lead 1-0.
