Tour rider's wife under arrest

13 April 2012

The wife of Raimondas Rumsas, the Lithuanian cyclist who finished third in the Tour de France, was under arrest in Lyon today on suspicion of carrying doping products.

A French customs official said that Edita Rumsas was taken into custody yesterday after a check of her vehicle in the Alpine town of Chamonix.

The spokeswoman said the cyclist's wife had been carrying "medications that could be considered as doping products".

It was not immediately known whether the products had anything to do with the Lithuanian cyclist.

Rumsas was third in the Tour behind American Lance Armstrong and Joseba Beloki of Spain.

Meanwhile, Lance Armstrong may have won his fourth Tour de France yesterday but the American has said retirement is far from his thoughts.

The 30-year-old aims to continue racing until at least 2004, although he was quick to dismiss suggestions that automatically means two more Tour victories.

"I'll never say I'm going to do this or want that. My personal goals are my business and it would be suicide to announce that I'm definitely going to win the Tour," Armstrong said.

"I think it's best not to make bold predictions. When I come to the start of the Tour de France I say, 'I think I'm ready, I think the team's ready and I hope we win'. I don't go further. But this is not my last Tour."
