Watch out Robbo, Tottenham are chasing a new keeper!

Paul Robinson's career at White Hart Lane has been cast into doubt as Tottenham line up a January move for Udinese's highly rated young goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

The England keeper, who had been suffering from a calf injury, was back for Spurs in their 2-0 Carling Cup victory over Blackpool in Juande Ramos' first game in charge.

But Tottenham's Spanish coach is understood to have serious concerns about Robinson's form and director of football Damien Comolli has identified Handanovic as one of Europe's brightest talents.

Handanovic, 23, has eight caps for Slovenia and established himself as first choice at Udinese.

Comolli has also been watching Schalke's Manuel Neuer but the 21-year-old slipped down the Frenchman's wishlist after allowing Florent Malouda's shot to go through his legs in the Champions League match against Chelsea.

Robinson remained bullish after keeping Tottenham's second clean sheet of the season against Blackpool.

He said: "We will see what happens and whether he makes any signings but I am confident I am No 1 at this club and that it will stay that way.

"It's very pleasing for me to get a first win for a few weeks and a clean sheet as well. It came on my 150th appearance for the club so it was a good night all round. I feel totally fit now after my calf problem. I'm just delighted to be back."

Robinson even claimed he will have a say in who will replace goalkeeping coach Hans Segers, sacked in the wake of Martin Jol's departure.

He added: "I have not got a goalkeeping coach at the moment. I will talk to the sporting director this week. I am in close conversation with Damien about who the next man should be."

Dimitar Berbatov's agent, Emil Dantchev, wants talks with Ramos and Comolli early next week with the striker's future far from certain.

It is possible that Berbatov will seek a move in January.
