WBA and Middlesbrough battle to wins

12 April 2012

Jonas Olsson struck a winning double to send West Brom on their way to victory over Doncaster on a night when the Coca Cola Championship's top two sides both came from behind to win.

The Baggies had suffered the shock of Waide Fairhurst's opener for the visitors at The Hawthorns, but Swede Olsson struck back with goals in the 19th and 65th minutes before Chris Wood made the game safe late on.

Middlesbrough remain hot on the leaders' heels after Gareth Southgate's men also recovered from an early blow to ease past Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 at Hillsborough.

Scunthorpe followed up their stunning weekend rout of Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park by surprising Preston 3-1 with goals from Gary Hooper, who got two, and Grant McCann. Jon Parkin hit a second-half consolation for the visitors.

Sheffield United also failed to continue their good start to the season as they fell 3-2 to Coventry in a thriller at the Ricoh Arena.

Mark Robins claimed his first win at Barnsley boss in dramatic fashion at Pride Park. Adam Hammill and Andy Gray struck either side of the interval to overturn Rob Hulse's 27th-minute opener for the home side.

As the home side pushed forward Barnsley's Brazilian midfielder Anderson Da Silva added a third in the last minute. But there was still time for Shaun Barker to reduce the deficit and make the final score 3-2 to Robins' men.

Grant Leadbitter gave Ipswich a first-minute lead against Nottingham Forest at Portman Road but it was not enough to give Roy Keane his first win of the season as Robert Earnshaw hit an equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

Tom Cleverley's early goal was enough to lift Watford to sixth place at rock-bottom Plymouth while Leicester had to be content with a 1-1 draw from their East Midlands derby with Peterborough.

Swansea and Bristol City shared a goalless draw while Neil Warnock's hopes that his side would rebound from their humiliating midweek home defeat to Scunthorpe suffered a blow when Crystal Palace's trip to QPR was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
